The general operating principle of a dew point sensor, measuring moisture in air and gases, is well documented. However, it is its actual construction which is critical to performance and reliability. This construction varies widely depending on the manufacturer.
SHAW’s dewpoint sensor is constructed of an ultra-high purity aluminium wire which is coated in a hygroscopic layer and covered with a film of porous gold. The aluminium wire and gold film form the two plates of a capacitor. Uniformity of the Base Layer determines the base capacitance and is crucial for a reliable, stable and drift free dew point sensor.
A unique feature of the SHAW dew point sensor is its resistance to many contaminants and specificity to water vapour pressure regardless of the carrier gas. This is due to its construction and the size of its tubular pores.
With little or no maintenance requirement, Shaw Moisture Meters dew point sensor is flow independent and operates over a wide range of temperature and pressure. The sensor covers a temperature range of between -100 °C to +20 °C (-148 °F to +68 °F) dew point, which corresponds to 0.0015 ppm to 0.2 percent by volume. The choice of measurement range is dependent upon your application.
